Bird identification can be difficult, even for experienced birders, and many discussions occur during group walks and camps on this subject.

Maleny Camp

Noisy Pitta, Maleny, Qld (Pitta versicolor versicolor) © Vernon Kretschmann

Maleny is with easy reach of Brisbane being 101km from Brisbane City Centre.  The only problem with the trip is traffic which can be bumper to bumper on the M1 from 1 – 6pm during the weekdays.  Returning to Brisbane on a Sunday can also be busy from approximately 12 onwards.  At other times the traffic can be unpredictable due to accidents and break downs.

You can camp at the Maleny Showgrounds and we will tell them to expect a Birds Queensland group and then hopefully they will group us in one area.  There are many other accommodation options in the Maleny area should e\people so desire.

The main potential drawback of the weekend will be rain.  It is called ‘Rainy Maleny’ for a reason.  I will be approaching the ancestors and other such individuals to intercede on our behalf in pusuit of perfect conditions.

On the Saturday evening we will have dinner at the local Maleny Hotel which is within easy walking distance of the showgrounds.  Should people choose the walking option, then a designated driver is not required to facilitate the safe conduct of the activity.

The walks will all be conducted within easy driving distance of the showgrounds and there will be ample parking at all the sites.

An exact schedule of the walks will provided on the weekend.
