Short Talk

Mervyn Mason – Birds and windfarms in Queensland – what we do and don’t know

Mervyn has been assisting energy companies and governments to employ best practice to limit impacts to biodiversity from renewable energy projects.  Drawing on international and national experience, Mervyn’s talk will focus on Queensland’s wind energy developments and the application of best available knowledge to minimise the impacts on our birds.

Long Talk

Frank Burch – Orchard Road farm Dam, a dam site worth saving

Frank has lived in the Redlands District for twelve years and has been a regular bird observer at the Orchard Road farm dam site in the south-east corner of the Redlands District.  Since 2017, 141 bird species have been recorded, making it a significant area for local birdlife.  Unfortunately, as part of the Stockland Shoreline Residential Development plan, the Orchard Road dam and the very close and neighbouring Scenic Road dam with 127 recorded sightings, are both earmarked for a complete in-fill to make way for sporting fields and a supposed ‘wildlife corridor’.

Frank, Kathy Clark of Birdlife SQ and Redlands local Mark Rodwell, are hoping to save these farm dams from destruction, and this presentation portrays both the birdlife and the dilemma.
