Bird identification can be difficult, even for experienced birders, and many discussions occur during group walks and camps on this subject.

Girraween / Foxbar Falls Camp October 13th – 20th 2024

This is a potential 7 day camp at Girraween National Park and Foxbar
Falls . You may however, choose to attend only part of the camp. It is
up to you.

Girraween will be first, from Monday the 14 th of October till Thursday
the 17 th . The large camping area at Girraween is split up into 3 areas.
I have booked into the Kambuwal Camping area. You will need to
make your own individual bookings through the National Parks
website. The camping area caters for tents and caravans. Toilets are
nearby but you will need to bring your own solar shower to use in the
cubicles in the amenities block. There is easy access for conventional
vehicles. There is an abundance of accommodation options in the
area if you don’t wish to camp

Birding will potentially reward us with good sightings of some
species which are not common.

On Thursday the 17th we will leave Girraween and make our way to
Foxbar. In Stanthorpe there will be the opportunity to restock
supplies and we may even end up visiting a winery for lunch.

Foxbar Falls is a working small crops farm with several large dams
and nearby woodlands. There is extensive camping, both powered
and unpowered. I have booked a campsite in the “Lakeside Trees”
area. This area is beside one of the dams and offers very. good
birding directly from the campsite. There are showers and toilets.
The manager has reserved the other sites at “Lakeside Trees” for BQ
members. Make your own bookings and don’t forget to tell them
you are a BQ member. Contacts: Ph 0477369227(8am to 4.30pm),
Email info@foxbarfalls.com.au. As stated previously, there is an abundance of
accommodation options in the area if you don’t wish to camp
Past camps at Foxbar have rewarded us with a good variety of water
birds, woodland birds and parrots.

Please advise me by Email if you are attending, and then, closer to
the date, I will send you an email with more details of activities and
timings. Email davemcaully@live.com.au
