Thylogale Track, Jolly’s Lookout

Wompoo Pigeon, Maleny, Qld. (Ptilinopus magnificus ) © Vince Bugeja

The Thylogale track is in the southern section of D’Aguilar National Park, approximately 30 km from Brisbane.

From the Brisbane suburb of The Gap drive north-west along Mount Nebo Road about 15 km past the Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre to Jolly’s lookout. Park either at the lower car park (limited space) or the lookout car park at Jolly’s Lookout.

We will meet 7:30 am at the lookout car park and then walk down hill to the lower car park where the Thylogale Track begins. The track is 4 km one way to Boombana on a grade 3 walking track. The beginning of the track is rainforest with strangler figs, hoop pines and palms. Look for Wompoo Fruit-Doves, Catbirds, and Bowerbirds. The scenery changes into wet sclerophyll forest with Brush Box, Casuarinas and Sydney Blue Gums. Arriving at Boombana we will also walk the Pitta Circuit (1 km circuit ), followed by morning tea.

2 options are available for the return to Jolly’s Lookout to pick up your car. Car ferry from Boombana along the road or walk back along the Thylogale Track (4km). I will leave my car at Boombana to provide a shuttle back to Jolly’s lookout.

Walking back along the road (about 2 km ) is not recommended due to the amount of traffic; cars and motorbikes. Please email me or text your intention in attending as the track can be closed at short notice.
