Bird identification can be difficult, even for experienced birders, and many discussions occur during group walks and camps on this subject.

Wynnum foreshore

For this activity we will be walking along the foreshore at Wynnum looking for migratory shorebirds feeding on the mudflats on a rising tide, with a shared picnic and bird call afterwards.  It must be understood that there is no guarantee that the birds will cooperate with this plan, but we should have a pleasant outing regardless. I don’t expect we will walk far. I will bring some spare telescopes from the Queensland Wader Study Group.

We will base ourselves on Wynnum Esplanade at the intersection with Penfold Parade, where I will set up some camp tables after the walk for our shared picnic and bird call. There are public toilets a short distance away in George Clayton Park.

Low tide will be 0.70 metres at 12:52pm. High tide will be 1.82 metres at 6:37pm.
Meet on Wynnum Esplanade, Wynnum at the intersection with Penfold Parade. See link: meeting place.

Bring a telescope if you have one. Definitely bring a chair. As usual, also bring closed shoes, hat, sunscreen, insect repellent and afternoon tea to share.
