Christmas Camp

Karingal Scout Camp (and Karragarra Island)

13 – 15 December 2024
Leaders: Andrea Schafer and Nicky Stafford
Email: president@birdsqueensland.org.au

Come join Birds Queensland Christmas 2024 camp fun, bird watching, Christmas dinner, and good company. We’re staying at Karingal Scout Camp, with a full kitchen and a hall for Christmas dinner. This is a surprisingly peaceful, very large Scout property to wander through, with wallabies and birds in eucalypt surrounds. We are booked in the Cooinda and John Oxley campsites with great shaded seating in the Camp.

Address is: 153 Karingal Road, Mount Cotton.

Friday afternoon, 2pm, will be a walk to the lake on the Scout property, Saturday will be a short drive and ferry ride to explore the Southern Moreton Bay Islands with the locals, back to camp in time for Christmas dinner (please bring a plate of Christmas food to share), and Sunday morning will be an exploration of Eagleby Wetlands, finishing before midday. We’ll be watching birds in diverse habitats including eucalypt woodlands, lakes, mangroves, sandy islands, and freshwater wetlands.

Available accommodations are: basic small bunk rooms requiring your own linen ($18.70 per person per night), only a couple of powered sites (confirm your booking early for these) and plenty of unpowered sites in bush land ($15 per person per night) for tents, campervans, camper trailers or caravans. Toilets, showers, and a full kitchen are available for Birds Queensland sole use. There is an additional fee of $5 per person per night to cover the hire fee for the hall and kitchen for the group.

Bookings are through Andrea Schafer, camp leader, not the Scouts. Please confirm your place prior to the camp with the camp leader (contact details above).

Don’t forget to bring your Christmas cheer and goodwill, and a plate of yummy Christmas food to share.
