Rocky Creek Scout Camp

Forest Kingfisher, Darwin Botanical Gardens, NT. (Todiramphus macleayii macleayii) © Maggie Overend

BQ last ran a camp here in July 2017 and is worth a revisit. The Scout Camp is just 2.5 km from Landsborough and is sited on 120 acres, 100 under conservation. There are several walking tracks on the property. We will also be visiting some nearby sites which will require some car-pooling.

We have been allocated the ‘General Camping area’ for the group, the area is known as the ‘Paroo’ camping area.

There are both powered and unpowered sites and plenty of space for tents. The camping area has an under covered area with limited seating and a fire pit.

In addition to camping, we can utilise the bunk room. Attached to the kitchen are 4 x bunk rooms which have (2 x 6 bunk beds and 2 x 16 bunk beds). The bunk rooms and beds are basic and you will need to bring your own linen and bedding as none are provided.

Located nearby is the amenities block with hot showers and flush toilets.

We also have access to the camp kitchen which has a fridge, kettle, single microwave, washing up facilities, stove, or hob. It is recommended that you bring your own crockery and cutlery, there are pots and pans which can be utilised. Adjacent to the kitchen is an undercover area with tables and chairs that we can utilise for bird call where the weather is inclement.

Cost: Powered sites are $28 per site per night and Un-powered $25 per site per night. Anyone wanting to share a bunk room and bunk bed, the cost is $15 per person per night. ALL Camping (powered/unpowered sites) as well as the bunk bed fees will be collected at the camp by a BQ delegate, so ensure you have the exact cash please.

IMPORTANT:
You will need to contact the camp leader (ONE WEEK PRIOR TO THE START OF THE CAMP) via email indicating:

  • Your selected accommodation option, that is camping powered or unpowered, bunk bed
  • How many will be attending
  • When you plan to arrive and leave (especially if outside the dates of the camp)

NOTE:
You will not be able to book directly with the Scout Camp for camping/accommodation, hence why you need to let the camp leader know that you are attending. The camp leader is required to confirm numbers with the Scout group a week prior to the start of the camp. As such please plan your stay and avoid arriving at the site unless you have previously let the camp leader know to expect you.

When you arrive: You will not be able to drive through directly to the camping area as there is a gate’ across the entrance. There is an onsite camp site manager.
