The Sunbird

Journal of the Queensland Ornithological Society Inc (Birds Queensland)

The Sunbird was a peer-reviewed journal published twice a year by the Queensland Ornithological Society Incorporated (Birds Queensland). The Society’s aim is to promote the scientific study and conservation of birds, with particular reference to the birds of Queensland, and in this it is the sole ornithological journal devoted specifically to birds of Queensland and adjacent northern regions of Australia. It commenced publication in 1970. The scope of the journal covers all aspects of ornithology, e.g. life history, taxonomy, distribution, behaviour and ecology.

Recently, article submission rates have dropped significantly and to ensure The Sunbird continues to achieve its stated objectives the last issue in the current format was released in December 2017 and a new format of The Sunbird will be released in late 2018. The new journal will focus on reviewing the status of birds in Queensland annually, based on records submitted and local knowledge. The editors will still welcome contributions from researchers and bird watchers as end papers to the review. Papers may take the form of major articles on specific birds, birds in specific areas or habitats, short notes on birds, or notes on the literature on birds, such as reviews of books or comments on published articles. All submissions except for book reviews and other opinion pieces are reviewed by independent referees

Prospective authors during this transition period are advised to contact the editor via the contact page before preparing any content for The Sunbird so expectations on both sides can be managed. A new editorial team will be announced during 2018 as work to produce the new journal progresses.

For further information on submitting articles, please see Instructions to Authors. A list of contents and indices of all past issues is available, as are contents and abstracts of recent issues.
